A great tool for facilitating communication with children with autism, as well as other language delays and disorders. Elliecards were created by the parents of an autistic child. When the system worked well for their daughter, Elliecards were further developed with the hope of helping other children, parents, therapists and educators. Elliecards are small laminated photographs of foods and toys commonly used by young children and their caregivers. Photographs are used instead of illustrations or symbols, making this system excellent for children who are at the concrete level of using actual photos for communication. The cards are affixed to a master binder with Velcro. They come assembled in a binder organized into categories by plastic color-coded pages. Lamination is of high quality and the cards are very durable. Cards are 2.25"L x 1.75"H. The complete package of Elliecards saves the therapist, teacher or parent a lot of time and work. It includes 192 laminated images mounted on 16 color-coded and categorized pages in a sturdy binder. It also includes the child's "choice board", where the images may be mounted and interchanged. Images include a variety of foods, snack reinforcers and toys commonly used by young children. Some cards also indicate places such as potty, bath and outside as well as a selection of colors. Sets of laminated cards can also be purchased separately. These sets do not include Velcro, the binder, color-coded pages or choice board. Elliecards were designed to be used as a picture exchange system. They should be used under the guidance of a therapist or educator familiar with augmentative communication methods. |
